What Is the Santa Rita PTA?

The PTA is a volunteer organization that provides volunteer and financial support for programs to extend the curriculum provided by the Los Altos School District.

The Santa Rita PTA Goals for the 2011/2012 School Year include:

  • Academic Support: Continue to meet LASD district requests: Teaching Materials, Supplies and Copy costs. Launch New Back to School Supply Program.
  • Enhance Santa Rita Community: Continue emphasis on “total” community participation for Bobcat Chase back-to-school event. Encourage community building through attendance of Auction events and parties. Introduce New Family Committee and Buddy Family Program. Launch Project Cornerstone and maintain and promote “The Six Pillars of Character”
  • Technology for Communication: Encourage on-line classroom to home communication (i.e. field trip forms, class newsletters, teacher websites, etc). Continue to focus website as “first” resort for all information. Utilize on-line tools to manage PTA communications (i.e. Google docs, Formsite and Online Back to School Packet). Work with LASD to streamline on-line information collection for Student Profile and Student Directory needs
  • Technology for Education: Assist in continuing the integration of technology into the classroom. Encourage new ways of teaching through technology. Continue teacher technology training.

Past activities and resources provided by the Santa Rita PTA include:

  • Funding for capital improvements such as the Santa Rita running path, the multipurpose room upgrade, landscaping and beautification, computer equipment and instructional audio visual equipment for the classrooms
  • Funding for academic support including text books, instructional supplies, Science Fair, supplies for teachers, teacher stipends, Living Classroom, and the Starting Arts Program for grades K-3
  • Funding of literacy programs including the Birthday Book Club program and the Book Fair which provide library books and classroom literature sets
  • Character Counts, Witches’ Delight, the Bobcat Chase, Special Assemblies and the Junior Olympics, all community building events for our school
  • Enrichment programs including Art, Math, Chess Club, Chorus and more.
  • Hot lunch program and recycling program
  • Bobcat Tracksters, Bobcat Striders and playground equipment to support physical education as well.
