2012 Spellathon   

The Spellathon is a spirited tradition at Santa Rita. Every January, the students are given lists of spelling words to learn. They collect pledges from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends. Sponsors can pledge an amount per word spelled correctly, or they can pledge a flat amount for the whole spelling test. The funds raised from the Santa Rita Spellathon will go to support the school's goal of strengthening how technology and learning work together. The Santa Rita PTA is committed to increasing our students' access to technology tools in the learning environment. Funding will be used, in part, to provide technology training for Santa Rita teachers and students, and to purchase hardware. The students have the opportunity to compete for prizes. The Top Bee who brings in the most pledges for Santa Rita in 2012, will win an Apple iPad.

2012 Spellathon Words By Grade

Key Dates:

• Wednesday, January 4 – Students receive sponsor forms and word lists
• By Friday, January 20 – Spelling tests given and corrected results returned. Pledge collection begins. 
• Wednesday, February 1 – Deadline to return collected donations (with pledge sheets).
• Friday, February 17 – Prizes distributed.

Volunteers Needed:

Volunteers are needed on two important dates.  Please contact your room representative to sign up, or sign up via Googledocs.

• Friday, February 3 – Accounting Day.  Volunteers needed to count pledges. 
• Friday, February 17 – Prize Distribution Day.  Volunteers needed to organize prize distribution.
