2010 Spellathon   

The Spellathon is a spirited tradition at Santa Rita.  Every January, the students are given lists of spelling words to learn.  They collect pledges from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends.  Sponsors can pledge an amount per word spelled correctly, or they can pledge a flat amount for the whole spelling test.  The money earned is used by the PTA to fund art programs, music programs, and other important activities that our children enjoy and benefit from all year long.  The students have the opportunity to compete for prizes.  The Top Bee who brings in the most pledges for Santa Rita in 2010, will win an iPod Nano.

Key Dates:

• Tuesday, January 5 – Students receive sponsor forms and word lists
• Week of January 11 – Spelling tests are given. 
• Friday January 22 – Pledge sheets due.
• Friday, January 29 – Corrected tests and forms are returned to students.  Pledge collection begins.
• Tuesday, February 9 – Deadline to return collected donations (with pledge sheets).

Volunteers Needed:

Volunteers are needed on three important dates.  Please contact Karen Costa at kdcosta *at * sbcglobal.net to volunteer for these dates:

• January 26 – Test Grading Day.  Volunteers needed to grade tests and calculate pledges earned.
• February 10 – Accounting Day.  Volunteers needed to count pledges. 
• March 12 – Prize Distribution Day.  Volunteers needed to organize prize distribution.

2010 Prizes:
