Title:
6th Grade Teacher
AJ Johnson

"If you are afraid to fail, you will never do the things you are capable of doing." -John Wooden. John Wooden is a renowned basketball coach from UCLA. While his success on the court is heavily celebrated, Wooden’s teachings extend far beyond the realm of sports. This quote reminds me of the power of motivation and the drive one has to continue to challenge him/ herself. I strive to convince ALL my students of the immense potential they have. To achieve this, I focus on building a community that cultivates intrinsic motivation and encourages a sense of wonder. I also value and emphasize the importance of diversity in the classroom in order to foster a rich and stimulating learning environment. I completed my first year of teaching in first grade, and am now starting my fifth year of teaching in third grade. I completed my undergraduate degree in North Carolina in Elementary Education. I continued my education at Vanderbilt University earning a M.Ed in Reading Education. When I am not in the classroom, you will find me training for marathons, coaching soccer, snuggling with my cat, or shopping at Costco.
