Letter from the Principal

Good afternoon Santa Rita families,

We made it through our first full week and our students are connecting well with their teachers and new classmates. So many great things are happening in our classrooms… the launch of Readers and Writers Workshop, inquiry based social studies and science units, and our new math curriculum, Bridges Math. You learned about these at Back to School Night and I am excited to see the deeper learning our kids will experience throughout the school year!

Bobcat Chase - Coming Soon
We hope you are already planning to join us for this community event on Saturday, August 29th. What a great way to start your weekend with some exercise and fun with friends and neighbors. I look forward to seeing you all bright and early.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and please check out our new Instagram page, @santaritabobcats, to see some of the great things that are already happening:)

LAEF SR Reps

LAEF

Let’s come together and support a high-quality, well-rounded education at Santa Rita this school year.

For 44 years, LAEF has funded the teachers, staff, and programs that make our students’ education exceptional beyond what public funding covers.

Beginning in 2026–27, LAEF is expanding its role by fundraising for instructional programs and materials that were previously supported by the PTAs. This change allows us to provide more consistent support for these programs across every LASD school. This is a shift in fundraising responsibility, not educational priorities, creating clearer roles and simpler giving for families. So we are asking you to shift some of their donations toward LAEF, in a similar way to how the fundraising responsibilities are shifting.

Let's set our students up for a successful year. Learn more about what your gift makes possible.

Thank you for supporting our neighborhood schools!

Special Upcoming Events

We hope to see you there!
Bobcat Chase

It's Almost Time for the Bobcat Chase!

Mark your calendars, Santa Rita families — one of our most treasured school traditions is back! Join us on Saturday, August 29th from 8:00–10:00am for the Bobcat Chase, a morning full of energy, school spirit, and community love.
Here's how it works: each grade level gets their moment to shine, taking a lap around the course while friends, family, and staff line up to cheer them on. There's nothing quite like the sound of the whole Santa Rita community coming together to root for our kids!
Grab a coffee and a donut, cool off with a popsicle, and soak in the excitement as we kick off the school year the way we love best — together.

This event is
completely free
and open to all Santa Rita families. Come cheer loud, wear your Bobcat pride, and help us start the year united as one pack!
See you there — let the chase begin!

Become an Art Docent!

The Art Docent training program gives new volunteers everything they need to feel confident bringing art into the classroom. Trainees explore all the art mediums we teach while learning classroom management skills, how to lead engaging discussions, and how to give effective demonstrations.
New Docent Training takes place on Thursday mornings from 8:45–11:30 a.m. starting September 3rd and includes technique, art content, and general program topics. Once training begins, new docents gradually gain classroom experience—assisting in September, co-leading in November and December, and moving into assisting, co-leading, and leading lessons from January through May.
Join us! It’s a wonderful way to learn something new, share your creativity, and make a lasting impact on our students!
